Safety and what to weigh
Poland's advantage is regulatory rather than clinical: EU rules on devices, record-keeping and data protection apply, and GDPR gives you an enforceable right of access to your medical records. If a dispute or a revision ever arises, that is worth considerably more than it sounds.
The disadvantage is that fewer Polish clinics run the full patient-logistics operation Turkish hospitals have built. You are more likely to arrange your own accommodation and transfers, and out-of-hours coordinator support is thinner. For a straightforward two-visit dental case that is a fair trade; for major surgery, check carefully what support actually exists.
Frequently asked questions
Is Poland cheaper than Turkey overall?
Sometimes, for two-visit treatments from the UK or Germany. The procedure costs more, but two return flights cost substantially less. Run the total for your own city rather than trusting either headline.
Does my GHIC or EHIC cover treatment?
No. It covers medically necessary state care, not planned private treatment. It may help with an unrelated emergency while you are there.
Can I get my medical records afterwards?
Yes — GDPR gives you a right of access to records held by an EU clinic, which is far easier to enforce than the equivalent outside the EEA.
Why do fewer clinics have JCI accreditation?
Because they operate inside EU regulation and have less need to court international accreditation. Check national registration and the individual practitioner's number instead.
Will the surgeon speak English?
Usually, but confirm the surgeon does — not only the coordinator. Consent given through a third party is worth less if a dispute follows.
