Dental implants in Turkey: costs, clinics and what to expect
What a single implant really costs in Istanbul and Antalya, what the quote excludes, and how the two-visit schedule works for UK and Gulf patients.
Turkey is the highest-volume dental destination for European patients, and dental implants are the single most requested procedure. A titanium post with an abutment and crown is typically quoted at £600 to £850 in Istanbul, against £2,400 to £3,000 at a UK private practice — a saving of roughly 72 per cent on the implant itself.
The saving is real, but the headline figure hides the structure of the treatment. An implant is not one appointment. The post is placed, the bone fuses to it over three to six months, and only then is the crown fitted. Almost every Turkish clinic prices these as two visits, and a quote that covers only the first one is not comparable to a UK price that covers both.

What to weigh before you book
The most common complaint from UK patients is not clinical, it is scheduling. If the bone does not fuse on the expected timetable, the second trip moves, and flights booked months ahead are lost. Book the return leg flexibly, or not at all until the clinic confirms.
The second common problem is aftercare. If a crown debonds or the post fails at eighteen months, your NHS dentist will treat pain and infection but will not redo private implant work. Ask the clinic in writing what its warranty covers, for how long, and whether it funds the return flight. Some do; many quietly do not.
How to choose between clinics
Ask for the surgeon's name and registration number, not just the clinic's accreditation — accreditation covers the facility. Ask how many implants that specific surgeon places per month, and ask to see the CBCT review before you pay a deposit. A clinic that will quote a price without seeing a scan is quoting a template, not your case.
Frequently asked questions
Is one trip to Turkey ever enough for implants?
Only for immediate-load cases, where a temporary crown is fitted the same day. These suit a minority of patients and depend on bone quality. If a clinic offers single-visit implants without reviewing a scan, treat that as a warning sign rather than a convenience.
What happens if the implant fails after I return home?
Failure rates run at 2 to 5 per cent over ten years. Most Turkish clinics offer a warranty on the post, often lifetime on the implant and shorter on the crown, but almost none cover your return travel. Get the policy in writing before you travel.
Are Turkish implant brands the same as UK ones?
Frequently yes — Straumann, Nobel Biocare and Osstem are all widely used. Ask which brand and system will be used, and keep the implant passport you are given. A UK dentist needs it to service the implant later.
How soon can I fly after implant placement?
Most surgeons clear patients from 48 to 72 hours for a straightforward single implant. After a sinus lift, expect to wait longer — pressure changes matter. Get the clearance in writing on your discharge summary.
Do I need a visa for Turkey?
UK and EU passport holders do not need a visa for short stays. GCC nationals should check current requirements, which change. Confirm with the embassy rather than relying on a clinic's coordinator.
